Vintage Leather and Fabric Industrial Stags Head Chair

Those of you who have visited my web site www.mandypattullo.co.uk might have seen the stitched drawing of a stag's head on the home page. Before Christmas I sold this to Ormston Saint Home and Garden  in order for them to realise an idea to make old industrial furniture even more exciting. Now the dream has been realised and here it is for sale through their company which also does other delicious interesting furniture, architectural and global finds.  Follow this link

Exciting!

patchwork

In my studio I am doing what I like best patching odd bits and pieces together and then embroidering over the top. I am about to sign a contract with 2 other textile artists Ali Rhind and Jane Fraser  for a big exhibition over the summer months at the beautiful Fairfield Mill in Cumbria. This is the type of thing I will be showing but mixing a few old pieces in too which need to be seen again.

Shoes

This is a collograph print which I have made from a drawing in my sketchbook.A collograph print is made from a sheet of card on to which you have glued textures and made marks. It allows you to work in an abstract painterly way but also to construct quite detailed "drawn" prints from just basically cutting and sticking.
I will be teaching a shoe collograph course on Tuesday evenings from Tuesday February 26th at Horsley Printmakers. In this course we will celebrate our relationship with shoes. Whether it is shoes that you covet, a favourite pair of trainers, party shoes or children's shoes you will be able to use these as an inspirational starting point for printmaking. I have developed this theme myself through drawing, sketchbooks and prints and I will provide a wealth of visual information as well as the technical know how to get you going. Over the 4 sessions you will make several plates, produce numerous prints using oil based inks and be shown how to roll colours over the top to give your prints that added zing. If you have been on my evening classes before you know that you can use these sessions to develop your own ideas if you wish.
To book please do not contact me but go through the Horsley Printmakers web site.

Here are some pages from my own shoe sketchbook.

Flights of Fancy

On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th February I will be running a mixed media course in association with Horsley Printmakers. Birds have always featured heavily in my own work and I have been influenced in terms of styles by a number of artists.  At the moment I particularly like the work of Yorkshire based artist Mark Hearld who has developed a combination of collage and table top print making techniques to produce illustrations rich in make making. His inspiration and his methods of working are now explained in a new book ( Mark herald's Workbook by Simon Martin) and this book and the colourful work of Eric Carle and  Charlie Harper will be frequently referred to in my own collage course. We will start with drawing so that you get to know the silhouettes of the birds really well and then we will build up a collection of painted and printed papers which reflect the colours and marks found in bird plumage and habitat. We will use these to build up a series of mixed media collages.
I will be going on a course with Mark Hearld at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park in early February so will be fully inspired myself and able to pass on some tips to you.
If you are interested in booking you need to do it through the Horsley Printmakers web site.THERE IS ONLY ONE PLACE LEFT!

Stitched Hearts

In February I will resume teaching what I hope are inspiring courses for textile and print enthusiasts. I will be unashamedly be advertising them here but if you want to book then then you need to visit my web site www.mandypattullo.co.uk and book through that.

The first course this Spring will be Stitched Hearts which will take place in Jesmond on Sunday 10th February and costs £45 including all materials. Come and make a lovely patch worked and beaded keepsake pincushion in the fashion of the heart shaped mementoes made by 19th century sailors for their sweethearts. I will be giving you old cigarette silks as a starting point  which is what I've used in the examples below. You might also have time to work on to a base of lovely vintage quilting collage fabrics and embellish with stitch, buttons and beads to make a piece you will love or can give to someone you love !
