How the light gets in

I always say to students that imperfections in our textile work make it more quirky and interesting. I am not interested in the perfect. Leonard Cohen puts it beautifully in the lyrics for his Anthem

 Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

Sewnotstrawberryjam

Thank you to all of you who attended my workshops over the weekend.  You were such a nice bunch and you produced some lovely work. It was my first time at Waypost Farm and I was blown away by Sam's lovely big studio. So jealous! Sam runs courses all the time ( particularly dress making and soft furnishings)  but is keen to extend her programme to bringing in tutors offering other sort of skills and from further away and I was so pleased to be the first one invited in. She has asked me back next year so keep an eye on her web site at SewnotStrawberryJam and sign up for this blog to keep updated or contact me through my web site to be put on my newsletter mailing list.
The gorgeous weather, a pretty garden and the opportunity to stay in the shepherd's hut made it just not seem like work!

And this is where I slept! How romantic.....

Come and be taught by me in Kent this weekend!

A couple of people have canecelled places  for the workshop I am teaching in Kent this Saturday 7th June. Yes, this is a bit last minute but this is the nearest I will be teaching to London this year so why don't you come and join me  and learn how to do pictures like the ones below? The course is being hosted by SewnotStrawberryJam near Tenterdon.  More information on their site HERE and contact Sam at info@sewnotstrawberryjam.co.uk if you want to book one of the places.

Blue Book

This will probably be the last book I make for a while as I have a busy summer ahead. In the next month I will be teaching in Scotland, kent and Cornwall twice as well Northumberlandso any spare time is making teaching samples rather than indulging in pieces like this!

Hope and Elvis

Have just returned home from teaching all weekend at Hope and Elvis. A wonderful experience , thank you to all the students who came as you produced some really wonderful work and to Louise for providing an inspirational place and delicious food. Since there were 30 of you I don't want to show any favouritism by picking out work but some of the pieces can be found on the Hope and Elvis Facebook page  HERE.
I was honoured to see my little hare on the wall next to Mr Finch's work as well as a lovely piece of paper sculpture by Maggie Hollingsworth.

suffolk puffs

Some tiny collages using suffolk puffs sent to me by an American well-wisher.
