Indian inspiration

I never thought I would go back to Indian fabrics for inspiration but I was given some  old embroidered pieces unpicked from a wall hanging and couldn't resist trying to mix them up with my other vintage bits and pieces. I have purposely used the back of the fragment at the centre as I love that neon orange thread. I am working in a hospital project at the moment where we are using neon threads and hi vis clothing and I guess this echoes where I am with that. I am however letting it go… it is on Etsy now.

Thread and Thrift at Chateau Dumas

Selvedge magazine kindly asked me to teach at Chateau Dumas in the south of France this summer. I am just back from teaching a lively and kind hearted bunch of students from all over the world who wholly embraced the philosophy of using old things to create textile collages while we revelled in the luxury of staying in a beautiful location and being served wonderful food. These pictures, and I appreciate there are many, give you a feeling of what the students were up to. The work is all theirs not mine! I have given them many projects to finish and hopefully they do not have time to read this but are working  away finishing off their creations. Many of these pictures illustrate work in process. Thank you Beverley, Rema, Lesley, Liz, Sally, Joy, Melanie, Cindy, Alison, Ann, Karen, Cathy and Lynne. It was great to work with you and please look after Julie well if she happens to come to stay with you.

I have been making a few more collages to take with me to Chateau Dumas. I don't usually sell these as they are my most personal work and contain very special materials but I am beginning to let some of them go. Will soon be adding a "limited edition" section to my Etsy shop.
