Knit and Stitch next week

I will not be having an exhibition or a stand at Knit and Stitch at Alexandra Palace next week but I will be doing a short demonstration of how I made the fox that graces the cover of my book, something like the one below.

It will not be EXACTLY the same as every piece I make is unique but you will get the idea if you come along between 12 and 12.30 to The Creative Living Theatre next Friday 7th October. Information about this event is  HERE.
I will also be doing a book signing at Stand H32 from 10.30 - 11.15 if you want to come and buy a book and get it signed. I can not sign books that have been bought from other sources at this event which is hosted by Guild of Master Craftsman. There will also be signed copies of my books available at the Pavilion stand TGM15.

Might see some of you there!

Animal ABC

My daughter Alice Pattullo is bringing out a book too! She is doing a launch and signing soon in London at The House of Illustration if you can make it. The information is on the poster below.
She has always collected interesting images of animals and so was pleased to be able to work on her own version drawing on her visual research to create her unique illustrations. She has written about the process of researching, drawing and printing on her blog HERE if you want to find out how a creative mind works from initial idea to product.
It isn't just for children and am sure all artists and adults would love it too.  Her book is available on kindle too see the link HERE. I am so proud of her.

Chair

I would love to have a chair like this in my studio. What pleasure it would give you to look at all the textures.

Umbria

I am in Italy and whenever I am here I am reminded of why I originally trained as a surface pattern designer. You can see how patten making is cross cultural and same things turn up in Indian textiles, English wallpaper, American quilts.
Here are a few patterns I have seen today . Hope the pics are OK they haven't been edited

French finish

Today I sat in the warm sunshine at the allotment and finished the stitching on to a collage I started at Chateau Dumas. I was encouraging the students to use patchwork over papers to construct shapes to layer up in their collages. In this one a piece of french text donated by one of the students has been left in. I have used stars within my collages a lot over the years, sometimes constructing them and sometimes using ones unpicked from quilts. They always remind me of old patchwork.

Indian inspiration

I never thought I would go back to Indian fabrics for inspiration but I was given some  old embroidered pieces unpicked from a wall hanging and couldn't resist trying to mix them up with my other vintage bits and pieces. I have purposely used the back of the fragment at the centre as I love that neon orange thread. I am working in a hospital project at the moment where we are using neon threads and hi vis clothing and I guess this echoes where I am with that. I am however letting it go… it is on Etsy now.
