September Courses

I still have places on two courses which take place within the next month.

"Bloom" will run in Jesmond on 15th September ( possibly at my house) and will be full of different fabric manipulation techniques for making flowers. I have been experimenting myself and have come up with all sorts of ways to use scraps of fabric to make blooming marvellous flowers which can be worn, attached to a bag perhaps or as I do, hang them on the wall! The course costs £45 and includes all materials and equipment so you just have to turn up. If you are interested in this course place get in touch with me at mandypattullo@mac.com.

In association with Horsley Printmakers I will be running a "Monet Monotypes" course on 22nd and 23rd September. I shall be looking towards Monet's paintings of Giverney and other landscapes as a starting point for a workshop which is about a painterly and mark making approach to monotypes. You will produce numerous one off prints like the one below. It caught the attention of "Artists and Illustrators" magazine and is featured in the latest copy. More information about what the course is about, costs etc can be found at Horsley Printmakers web site HERE.

My studio

I have been tidying my studio all today in preparation for the Open Studios event this weekend. Its all a bit odd as it is a private space where I go and be creative and then I have to make it more shop like as that is what is expected. Anyway these are some photos of it as I left tonight. I guess by next week it will be back to a mess with fabric all over the floor and wonky pictures! Please come if you are around.

Drawings

I have been doing a lot of drawing recently, partly inspired by teaching other people how to do it on the summer school. I have returned to the palette I am happiest at here. All work will be for sale at my studio this Saturday and Sunday.

Textile histories

Some of us hold on to things for a long time because of their sentimental value. This windbreak had been in my family for 70 years or so and has its own story to tell. My father's side of the family come from North Norfolk and during WW2 this parachute was shot down over my family's farmland in Norfolk. You were supposed to report incidents like this but most families just scooped them up to turn them into other things. My grandmother made windbreaks for everyone in the family and because we are the sort of people who never throw anything away it is still in my Dad's garage!
